Ricardo (4s): Hello, everyone. Welcome to the five minutes podcasts today I'd like to talk about Agility and agile. Most people think that these two concepts are the same thing. So let me go one step back and try to understand what Agility is about and what agile methods are about. So first Agility. Agility is a behavior that you, your team, your organization have that are able to deliver everything fast. And in order to deliver these things fast, you have a very fast decision-making process. So when you have Agility you decide fast seconds, you have a flat structure.
Ricardo (47s): So the very low bureaucracy and this raised me to, the third point in the decision is very close to the execution. So those who are executing facing the problem are those who decide and the last, but not least, it's an adaptive environment. So you react to change. Can you do not try to avoid change. So look, when I say that, most of you will say, but, this is exactly the agile manifesto of the 2000. Yes, absolutely. The agile manifesto was a way that that group of professionals from IT and software development framed, the way they should respond to these are pressing need for change.
Ricardo (1m 34s): After that several agile methods were created every single of them with advantages and disadvantages in all of them. Basically, they try to address this so They are ways that help you and your organization to drive it. But to where the problem is, the problem is that if you confine the concept of agile and the mindset of Agility too, just your area, your department, your project,
Ricardo (2m 6s): What happens, You will be extremely fast in an extremely slow organization. It will not work because the Agility brings full value chain. And remember, your company is as fast as the slowest link. So if you weren't extremely fast, extremely adaptive, but your procurement area is just a cumbersome entity that will take forever to buy things and to make decisions. What happened? You will have an agile method does not drive Agility. And these is why several entities they're talking about business agility.
Ricardo (2m 46s): They are talking about organizational agility. People are talking about transformation. And it's exactly. These our answers saying, look, I can not implement. Agility just on my project office or put agile methods or my IT area because it's a far more complex to drive organizational and business agility because I need to put this mindset and the full value chain of the organization. And this is where the challenge is. This is why, for example, a PMI released is the discipline agile and the ways of working, that is scale agile, released safe. You know, and they are several entities today trying to help organizations with this path to Agility because otherwise, you wil have a very fast movement in one side in a very cumbersome on the other side.
Ricardo (3m 42s): So let me tell you another aspect. Many people think that if you are not using an agile method, you are not able to have Agility. This is wrong. You can use whatever process you want and be slow or have an Agility. It doesn't matter. So for example, if you are constructing a large bridge, you can use perfectly the PMBOK, and still being extremely agile, you know. And it's very important to understand because sometimes you only think it's like people saying when people and this is for me, it's one of my biggest nightmares is when people say, Oh, I want to use the PMBOK guide, but I'm not doing procurement.
Ricardo (4m 22s): So I'm not feeling the 49 processes. Come on, come on. This is just dumb. This is not smart. You know, you should use whatever drives better results. Most of the time in my real life, I mix everything. Everything I take pieces of one Thing pieces off another and then at the end, I called this my methods, whatever you want to call this, everything that helps you to become more Agile on making the decisions to become the less bureaucratic and cumbersome. Put the decisions close to those who are doing it and become much more acceptable and much more willing to handle and take change.
Ricardo (5m 8s): Look, coronavirus today. So everything we see is change. So change is not something that you should avoid in, in the old process based on how projects were handled. Oh, change is a nightmare now changes Welcome because it's the only way you survive. So understand this because sometimes people start by implementing the tool without understanding why you want to implement that. So you can implement the agile and fail and you can implement whatever waterfall you want to use and succeed because the concept of Agility goes far and beyond your single-cell have product development or project management.
Ricardo (5m 53s): Think about that. Okay. And I hope to talk more about agile, Agile methods Business Agility is in the upcoming Podcasts, take care and have a great week.
