Hello everybody welcome to the five minutes PMI podcast. Today Directly from Dallas tax us more specifically in the city of grapevine in Texas, very close to the airport and where it's happening. The PMI Global Congress 2011 North America. And this Congress, we started a couple of days ago with the Leadership Institute meeting at the annual meeting of the volunteers of PMI. I don't know we all of, you know, but PMI has about 7,000 volunteers, 7,000 people that are aiming to help PMI to deliver the key message of the Valley of project management.

And it does Meeting was to improve their ability to volunteer, to give new about the Institute, about the profession events, training and everything that the chapter's and the community of practices they can use to improve and increase their are valid to delivered to the members. And yesterday I'm recording this podcast Sunday afternoon. And so yeah, yesterday we had the official start do you know, off the Congress the PMI awards.

And I was very glad to see great people on the stage receiving their awards. I like to highlight my friend, Phillip, the app from Jordan, the 2008 PMI chairmen that receive at the PMI a fellow award. I like also to highlight, there are fungible set up from Spain that also received it, the PMI fellowship awards. I don't know, we feel, you know, but the fellow award it's one of the most prestigious awards of PMI the fellow members or something like the voice of the Institute, they are among them are the founders and all the people that really put PMI in the level that PMI is now.

So I was very glad to see this two Franz on the stage receiving this award. I like also to highlight the Brazilians presence in the awards America Pinto from Rio Janero receive at the PMI distinguished contribution awards, and he's a very friendly, and he developed a lot of studies in the benchmark and he did a great and wonderful job starting in real Dan spreading out to Brazil. And now among several countries, beaut, there's a study.

It's a very deep study and its a free resource for the project management community. So he deserve it a lot to receive this way. We saw people here yesterday, from all over the world. Again, somebody like 50 different countries, people from all over the planet here joined in and celebrate in project management tonight, Malcolm Gladwell will be presenting the, and I'm very excited to see because I read all of his books and he's an amazing guy.

I haven't him speaking before, but his books are very challenging and interesting to study the outliers book about the secrets of successful people and the tipping point for me, one of the concept of the tipping point is a great concept. The wave that you produce, doing things in your product that you can control any more. So after some aspect it's like Facebook or you do it for it's a new received new users, you do have course and laughter that you don't need to do anything.

It's like an atomic bomb. Everything went up without your own control. And the third book is the blink, its the book about the decision making process and that the people don't need to have all the information, all the pictures to make the proper decisions. They can do this with some insight. And this is a very, very good, interesting. So I'm very excited. I will be taking in this presentation to see what I can share with everybody. And today also we are starting something like more than a hundred technical presentations and what I can see here, it's a more deep content in some aspects.

So a topics like complexity topics like strategy portfolio. So I started my first Congress was In 99, eight in long beach. And since that time I went to all congresses in North America, all of them from 1998 to now and now two, most of the EMEA Congress and most of Latin America Congress and most of the Asia countries. So I'm very confident in what I'm sharing with you, what, or we can see it's an increasing maturity of the interest in project management, the maturity, they are looking more, the strategic side, they're looking more in benefit.

They're looking more in complexity. So what we can see here is this more mature content in the process. I will be presenting Tuesday morning, one paper about urgency, a critical factor in project planning and this I developed to my customers. And it's very, very interesting. What I did is you can like highlight the most important things that you do. You need to do to prepare in a vacuum, very high speed. You don't have too much time to prepare.

So how do you set up a project plan quickly, sharp and effective. So this is what I'll be covering because what I hear all the time out, we don't have so much time to plan. We don't have much time to plan, so we decide not to do anything. And then we manage the crisis when we are executing. So this is the challenge that I'll be addressing in my paper Tuesday, we can see a huge amount of content and all the PMI members, they can access this content later in the knowledge center of PMI So it's a great tools.

And why am recording this podcast? Because I'm know that not all of you are able to attend are able to attend. So I'd like to call it to have the opportunity to share with you my perceptions. So regardless of where you are, you will understand what's going on here. So I expect to, to eat more and also to share with you more content about the Congress.
