Hello everybody welcome to the five minutes BM Podcast do they, do I like to talk to you about International Career in Project Management and the reason why I'm recording this podcast is exactly because I receive it a lot of emails recently talking about look, mm, I want to move from a country. I want you to find new challenges, new opportunities abroad, but I don't know how to do that. We charge for the steps and many people use my own experience as a reference for them because I'm Brazilian a working in an English, speaking in English, living in Denmark.

So how could I do that? And then I decided to highlight, and that took note a piece of paper here in front of me, five aspects. I want to share with you about an international career. The first one is about language and it's about English. So if you were lucky enough on the English site to be born in a country where an English is a moderate on, if it's a country language, Daniel have a very good competitive advantage. But if this is not your case, like its not my case.

You need to invest time to learn English and you need not to have a descent. English. Maybe people say, Oh I speak English, but you know, speak English. What is different? Then speak English. So it's not an English enough. Please don't take me wrong. But it's not an English to go to Disneyland on your holidays. I'm talking business, English, English that is able for you to communicate to people or not saying anything about a for example, an accent.

Now this is, I have a lot of accent and you know this part of the life, but you don't know, you need to be able to communicate. I know that this may sound for sure, for some people, some professionals, because they said, Oh look, I didn't have a chance when I was younger to learn English. Now, what can I do? And I wanna just to share you my experience. I started learning English at the age of 22 and it was really, really hard, hard, but I made it. My English is not perfect, but I can communicate.

I can even record a podcast in English. So I'm not shy about if I do a mistake, I'm sorry for that. But most of the people can understand what I'm saying and I work in English. So it's very fast. If you don't have the English, you're limiting completely like your range of work. If you're talking on the international arena and the second is international experience and this has a Valley for just everybody. So let's suppose you were an American and of course English is not your problem.

But then may I ask you one thing? Do you have international experience? Have you enough to understand the globe in to understand that the word is beard than your country, for example. So this is she important. It's so important that you take your back pack, bring your partner, your family, and travel and understand. And again, don't travel only to the most touristic places on earth. Travel, to understand, trying to understand how people do business.

Try to understand how things work. Try to spend some time in the course abroad. So for sure in America and try to find a project manager mint or a financial development or Anne Frank course in Europe and straight up to three weeks as a student to learn so to learn. And those learning opportunities is not only for learning, but for an international experience. For example, my daughter is Today at Stanford university doing summer college.

And one of the main points mine, vestment of having her there. It's not because of English because she's third is that the international schools since the beginning, but its the life experience is to wash their own close, to live a loan as a 16 year old girl to live a long time to understand how is a university life in these for me is a way of getting these international experiences. You cannot get this state at home in your home country.

You need to travel to understand. The third point is expand your network, take a look on your LinkedIn profile and check if you more than 90% of your contacts or your connections, your real connections are in your head, the home country, how you can expect an intern national profile. You know, you need to expand your network, expand. And how do you do that? Going to Congress, going to seminars, social media, investing time and time, the social media or you know, on yourself.

And this will be a way that people were brought will see when we will find you on the fourth. One is this global presence. You understand that everything you do can be read by everybody on earth. So you need to understand when you prepare your CV, you need to right your CV and prepare your presentation or your profile to different publics. You can not say something that is very easy and easy to understand in your country, but people will not.

A country will not understand because you were looking for a global presence and last but not least, and probably one of the most challenging is the visas and the dog. It's not only required that you a good way to live abroad. We know that to understand that the countries they have, not only their borders, physically speaking, but they create a lot of walls to protect their own citizens. So it's very, very important that when you start thinking about an international Career, you need to evaluate where I can go, which kind of requirements this country puts in place that allows or reject my intent to leave their or to move there.

It's very, very important because each country has a different set of rules. It's a very, very important that you, you can do on all the other four topics that you can make a global rich. But when you start looking seriously, you need to put some targets. You need to say, Kay, I want to go to Canada. I want to go to Denmark. I want to go to this 10 countries or I want to go, I want to do humanitarian services. And I want to go to the middle list, but its not a designer in the air ticket need to understand all of the requirements, all of the visas in everything that you need to have in place.

This will allow you to make the right steps and also will help you. You as a good project manager to manage your own risks towards this movement. Final message. Do each of you? I think that the marketplace is global and we need to be prepared to be able to work in an international environment. It doesn't matter if we want to continue to stay Keenan in our home town, but we need to be prepared because the words is becoming so open and so volatile that this kind of perception will be extremely helpful for you professionally in the future.
