Ricardo (4s): Hello everybody welcome to the five minutes PM podcast today. I'd like to answer one question I received another day. Is the Project Manager Responsible for absolutely everything inside of the project, all the work that is done by the Project? So to answer that question, I need to answer in three steps. The first step is I need to explain what is the role of a Project Manager. You need to understand that most of the time, the Project Manager is not the person execute, the work, for example, if I'm building a house, usually the Project Manager is not the Plummer that will do all the plumbing of the house.
Ricardo (50s): The Project Manager it's like the coach of the team is the person that orchestrate to make sure that everybody plays his or her rule in order to produce the results you expect. So usually, the PM is not someone on the executions but it's much more someone orchestrating the work that others do in order to make sure that they are integrated and that they are coherent with the desires you make. So to answer this question using this first statement. The Project Manager is not responsible for every single Work off the Project, but the project manager is responsible for the overall success of the Project to take the corrective and preventive actions, to make sure that the Project will deliver what is needed.
Ricardo (1m 49s): Full-stop. The second thing we need to understand is that in order to do the work, the Project Manager requires many other skills. So it's the set of these different and combined skills that produce the results of the Project. It's not the one person before. So the Project Manager, it's not like the superhero that just some magic trick that makes the project Work. Know. The project manager is the person that is able to evaluate the risks the challenges and make corrective actions on the course of the project from the planning to the execution, in order to make sure that we, we'll be able to produce the results we want.
Ricardo (2m 39s): And third aspect. And for me, one of the most important you may ask me, Ricardo look on my badge. It's not written Project Manager, my business card is written intern, CEO, CIO. It's written financial Manager it's written, marketing director. So I'm not supposed to be a Project Manager my personal answer. It's no. Project Management. It's not necessarily only a profession. It's a life skill. It's an ability that people can put in place to deliver the better results to deliver the results that they need.
Ricardo (3m 25s): So it doesn't matter what title you have, if, you transform ideas into results. If you transform something in paper into reality, regardless of what your title, what your doing, is pure and simple project management, you are combining different resources, different skills into a plan adapting this plan, and evaluating all aspects of this plant in order to produce a successful result that you are responsible for. You are responsible for the results. You're not responsible for doing every single Work think about that a every time that people think that they are not doing project management, just because they do not have in their badge, the name Project Manager the name Project Manager is the last relevant aspect.
Ricardo (4m 25s): If you want to turn real things into reality, I hope you enjoyed this podcast until next week with another five PM podcast.
