Hello everyone. Welcome to the five minutes BM podcast today. I like to discuss the major differences, major upgrades between the fourth and the fifth edition of the PMBOK guide. Of course, a maybe all of you are aware that one of the key changes of the new PMBOK guide is the 10th knowledge area. The stakeholder management, we are coming from nine knowledge areas to attempt an area that will take care of all stakeholder management, and to make sure that all people engaged in the project directly or indirectly will be managed in a successful way.

We are also moving from 44 to 47 processes. So what I like to do now, its to go through each of the 10 knowledge areas, explain the major differences. And what is mine? Tim here is that when you go to the PMBOK site, you can take a look on the specific aspects that I consider as the major changes. So for example, if we start with the integration chapter four, there was no major change. When I tell that there is no major change and not that and that no change in the inputs, outputs and tools and techniques.

So you can find a lot of his mouth changes on this, but when I say no major change, Minutes there is no change in that way. DNA of the process, OK. In the DNA, in the intend of the process, So integration keeps basically the same six processes on the scope time and cost. We have one very important difference in this processes. We are creating in all of them, a new process. That will be the first scope management process, the first time management process and the first cost management process.

It's all about. So the process of plan scope managing that was created as the first process of scope plan, scan management as the first process of time plan cost management as the first process of cost. And this tree processes are very, very important because they aren't like the rule of the game. So if you are planning to manage the scope of your project, what does the role of the scope, how your thinking about planing, the scope.

So how will you be built your WBS, how we will be defined in the scope? So it's like the game, if your playing soccer, if you're playing football, I need to explain the rule before we start playing. So this is exactly what is the intent of this three processes. So before I start budgeting the project, I need to understand how I will plan the cost management, who we'll be engaged at, in this process of planning the cost. So this where the basic change that's in scope time and costs.

So scope come from five to six processes, time from six to seven and cost from three to four for quality, there is no major change. Also quality keeps the same three processes. So no major change HR it's also no major change. Keep in the four processes. Communications communications is for me together with stakeholder management, this new area, the point with the most relevant changes.

So on the communication side, what BMI did on the PMBOK the four processes of the fourth addition where you sit two or three, the first major change, the process, identify stakeholder move on to stakeholder management. The second, the process distributing information and reports performance. They were combining into a single process called manage communications and also a new process was created called control communications.

So basically in the PMBOK 15 Edition to control process where created the first one is the contract communication. And the second one is control stakeholder management that we'll be discussing later. So this to process. So basically the new communication chapter will be containing pre process plan, communications management, manage communications and control communications. So I plan what I want to communicate and manage and that issue and the reports I do the meetings.

And then I control of the effectiveness of the communication I'm putting in place in my project. Then risk and procurement. There were no major changes. Risk keeps the six process, just very small changes on the risk response plan. So just various small changes in outputs and procurement keeps the same for processes and last but not least the new stakeholder management area with, for process. As I said, coming from communications, the identify stakeholder process was created.

Also the plan stakeholder management manage is stakeholder engagement and control a stakeholder management. So first identify who are my stakeholders. Then I develop a plan and see how I can manage this people. And then I will be applying this plan during the execution on the managed stakeholder engagement. And then of course people may change their opinion. They can be more supportive or less supportive about the project with the time.

So I need to control the stakeholder management. So this where the new 47 process. And just before I finish, it's very, very important that what I liked most on this fifth edition is the growth of the soft areas, lack communication in Stakeholders because I was, if you hear all my Podcast, I'm always very, very concerned about making project managers aware that the critical success factor of all projects are much more related to, with the soft aspects then with the heart aspect.

So it's great for me to see more relevance given to stakeholder management, more sharp communication process. This will be far more effective if you are a project manager to make your project successful. So I hope you enjoy at this. I invite all of you.
