Ricardo Vargas Explains: Bracelets, Beats, and Big Stages: Lessons from a Taylor Swift Concert
Ricardo Vargas Explains: Bracelets, Beats, and Big Stages: Lessons from a Taylor Swift Concert
This week, I created the podcast episode in a different way in the second time. Instead of recording only the audio, I also recorded it in video. It is absolutely the same version, but it will give all listeners a bit of a taste of how I create the podcasts.
Last Friday, I attended the Taylor Swift concert in Lisbon with my family. My youngest daughter, Gabriela, is a big fan, and, as you all understand, I was there as a supportive dad.
But it was an eye-opening and breathtaking experience in all senses—and I am not talking about music. The unique insights I gained from this concert are something I can't wait to share with you all.
People may like or dislike the music, but what I saw there was unique.
From the flawless execution of the concert, showing a true masterclass of project management, to the energy and the connection Taylor Swift had with everyone in the audience.
My daughter was not there as "the fan." She had probably 60,000 other fans who were singing, wearing colorful bracelets, and wearing clothes in the "Swift" style.
I have been to hundreds of concerts, but I have never seen something like that.
It was a movement and a learning opportunity for me to understand that the entertainment industry is changing dramatically.
But to see that, I had to leave my comfort zone at home and spend 6 hours standing up in the frenzy of people singing, dancing, and exchanging bracelets with the names of Swift's albums (that my daughter carefully crafted for each of us).
In the end, I finished the concert with my arms full of bracelets, even though the only song I knew from her was "Blank Space."
And it was not a Portuguese audience. I saw people who had traveled from Germany, Canada, the East and West Coasts of the US, just everywhere.
Watch the video below for my reflections on stakeholder management, flawless project execution, and stepping out of our comfort zones as key factors in creating products and services people want.
And Taylor Swift and her crew (on stage and backstage) are doing that with impeccable perfection!
On a final note, as I did a few weeks ago, I decided to record in video and audio to improve your experience. You can listen to your favorite podcast player or watch it here or on my YouTube channel.
I truly hope you enjoy the podcast and that it helps you better understand how stakeholder needs can create impactful and memorable experiences.
