Ricardo (4s): Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Five Minutes podcast today I'd like to talk about templates. I know everybody is always looking for shortcuts. Shortcuts things that will save you time and that we'll bring some conformity to the results. And here comes the Template. First I love Template they provide a very strong source of insights, ideas, but what I do, and I don't like in what really scares me is that when you start using templates, your work, instead of being thinking about the project about the initiative or about the ideas is just filling out a form.
Ricardo (55s): So let me be very clear templates, are just a collection of best practices and best ideas that you will take a look and decide to by or yourself or by your organizational approach how to use it. Do you know what concerns me is that many business leaders, many project managers, they think that managing a project or managing an initiative is filling forms, you know, is feeling forms. Another day. I was so scared when someone was filling a template and on the template was asking about procurement.
Ricardo (1m 37s): And then he said to me, Ricardo I don't have procurement, but I need to feel that time Template so let's put the rubber, let's put paper, lets put a pencil and pens. I said, come on my friend, stop that this is your job is not feeling templates. Your job is thinking and the templates are just a good source of insights for you to provide the best information. And I need to tell you because years ago I wrote a book that at the end has a set of templates. And the idea was to say, look if I will, he was managing that project, but it was a sample project.
Ricardo (2m 19s): I say, I would present the informational risks this way. I will present information's on the budget in that way. But certainly, do you know what happened? Several students of MBA, they did their end of course work using that book as a reference. And then suddenly people were just feeling without thinking that say, Oh, Oh, there is this field here. Then I need to have this field on my work and on my project. So stop that. Remember There is no Template for Life. There is no, there are some ideas, but your life is your life. It's like your project, your initiative, or your idea.
Ricardo (3m 2s): So the Template is just a way to help you to think through that. But it's not something that you should follow in a blind way. So think always about that. So these shortcuts are very relevant, but these short cuts can not stop. Make you stop thinking. Think about that and see you next week with another five minutes Podcast.
