Ricardo (4s): Hello, everyone. Welcome to the five Minutes Podcast. Today like to talk about three skills that I would suggest you to develop or to become aware of, to survive and trive on this very tough times. The first one is self discipline and self organization. Let me explain your why. Most of the time, when you work in corporate office, you get stimulus from other people because you look around yourself, you see people working, you see people walking you see people printing. And this kind of environment foster, you to work, but when you were at home, these does not happen.

Ricardo (43s): Naturally. You need to have discipline to make it happen because the house traditionally was never a place for you to work. I'm talking and normal people that work in an office from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. So you need to have self organization and self discipline. And this has been one of the biggest challenges of those who are living now in lockdown or quarantine because they mess up everything because they're not used to that, because in the home you have kids you have the house, you need to put in place a self organization process for you. For example, I work a lot at home and a lot traveling.

Ricardo (1m 24s): So I have a very clear discipline to get my work done. To record this podcast, get things done otherwise the caos becomes part of my life. And self-discipline is also you do think that you don't want to do. Recently, I recorded a podcast about procrastination. So you need to understand that I love doing things. I like doing. I enjoy doing, but not everything I do. I enjoy doing, but I need to do at home. This is even more radical because many times you just postpone delay, delay, delay things you don't want to do. And then naturally what happens? You create that challenge to yourself to fulfill the deadline's, to commit with deadline.

Ricardo (2m 9s): So self discipline and self organization is a key skill on today's world. The second skill adaptability and adaptability, everybody talks about. You must be adaptable. But let me tell you that stability is not a natural skill, we are not born with it, we are born in a much more control environment. We were raised since when we were young to control things or to have ownership control, to not give up things. In, it's hard for us to adapt, to a changing environment. And this is a big challenge today, because today everything we need is adaptability companies that are adaptable, will survive organizations and governments that are able to adapt.

Ricardo (2m 53s): They will survive. So this is the biggest Skill. Is how adaptable you are to develop new things, to think different, to shift your project, to shift your initiative, you know, to redo your work and think that in a different way, this is adaptability. And less, but definitely not least radical self awareness. Let me tell you, it's very easy for us to identify our qualities to identify things we are good at. It's not very easy. It's not very pleasant and it's not very natural to identify blind spots in our skillset.

Ricardo (3m 33s): So today you need to be radical self aware. And what do I mean by that? You need to understand exactly where you are not good at and you need to work on this point, because right now there is no people will not evaluate you anymore by your working hours or by the way you look busy. They will evaluate by the results you bring to the table. So you will need to be really self awere, because the concept of direct supervision does not exist in this environment. I can call you using a video conferencing, but it's not like working and sitting together. So it's a different. You need to understand where you were good and where you are not good and by being transparent on understanding that, and sometimes being honest on your communication, look, for example, I received.

Ricardo (4m 25s): And you may know recently from someone saying, Ricardo, I'm in panic, I'm in fear, because my company didn't pay the salaries last month and then people cut the internet. And then one of my team members, was with that internet she could not work. And it was a mess and So I'm fearing for my job I'm fearing for. And this is natural. And by just putting this out, you are becoming self aware. So if someone thinks that there is nothing happening, this person is not self aware because there is a lot going on. We have, this crisis on COVID-19, but we have a big challenge coming from companies to recover from cashflow and all sorts of business.

Ricardo (5m 11s): And we need to be radical self-aware we need to know exactly where we can contribute. If we have these three Skills, we will be much more able to help organizations to go back on track and to help our career. Because in times of crisis, like this one is where innovation, adaptability, self-awareness, wil trive and wil make your career jump. Trust me it is just a moment of weakness that we are facing and challenges we are facing in the world. But if you could develop these skills and practice these skills, you will be much more able to contribute and make a better future.
